Q & A for CSCOPE Curriculum
Q. What is CSCOPE Curriculum?
A. CSCOPE is the district curriculum that is the source for what teachers teach, and students learn. It is a TEKS based curriculum developed by content experts and Education Service Center personnel across Texas.
Q. How does CSCOPE support learning?
A. CSCOPE provides a guaranteed and viable curriculum which means that by having all teachers teach a high quality, vertically aligned curriculum, it provides a combination of opportunity to learn and time to learn for all students.
Q. What districts use CSCOPE curriculum?
A. 750 of the 1039 school districts in the state of Texas use CSCOPE Curriculum. Examples of surrounding districts currently using CSCOPE include: Socorro, Canutillo, Clint, Fabens, Fort Hancock, Dell City, San Elizario, Anthony and Tornillo ISDs.
Q. Why do we have CSCOPE?
A. CSCOPE was evaluated by a team of curriculum experts within the Seguin ISD Department of Curriculum and Instruction. After it was reviewed by principals and teacher leaders it was selected as the highest quality curriculum to meet the needs of our students. This curriculum tool allows:
- Staff members to devote the majority of their time to teaching and student learning rather than writing and developing curriculum.
- Teachers and administrators to focus on instruction for student success.
Q. How will CSCOPE impact student success?
A. The state of Texas is transitioning from Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and the End of Course Assessments (EOC) as the state accountability tests. These tests will contain a greater number of items that have a higher cognitive complexity level. CSCOPE is a tool that will help prepare students to meet this level of rigor.
Q. What support is available for students?
A. There are a variety of strategies to support student learning. These include differentiated instruction, high yield instructional strategies, literacy, and key vocabulary. In addition, there are classroom and campus level interventions such as individual tutoring, small group instruction, and special programs.
