Culture, Caring and the Classroom
6th Annual Education Conference

Culture Caring and the Classroom is a one day conference sponsored by Education Service Center – Region 19’s Alternative Certification and Special Education Departments. This conference is brought to the public in an effort to show our appreciation to educators in the region 19 area by presenting a variety of special guest speakers, as well as entertainment from schools in the region. This conference brings in approximately 1500 area educators and parents and is a wonderful opportunity to show support for our teachers, students and the community in general. Please take a moment to view the video clip of last year’s conference and this year’s flyer. We would like to invite you to experience this celebration with us and encourage you to register for this FREE event through the ESC-R19 Click & Learn System # 15255.

Yahya Bakkar has trained with the top experts in human behavior, relationship dynamics and conflict resolution and is the oldest of seven siblings. Born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, he first traveled alone to the United States at the age of 5. Despite his circumstances, Yahya put the missing pieces of his life back together by healing his relationship with his father and finding his birth mother in Thailand after being separated for over two decades. His journey of surprising his long-lost mother on national television has been captured in a full-length documentary entitled, The Secret of Destiny. Yahya’s inspirational story gives people hope and reminds them to never give up on their dreams.

Josh Shipp is a former at-risk foster kid turned teen advocate. Josh has worked with groups of parents, educators & mental health professionals. His ultimate goal is to help as many young people as possible. Josh had a challenging childhood and bounced around in many different foster homes, until he had a handful of caring adults reach out to him. He now strives to pass this knowledge on and be that caring adult for kids like him. Josh says, “Every kid is ONE caring adult away from being a success story.”

David Garcia delivers his message with a 100% family-friendly comedy routine and motivational speech that has dazzled and moved audiences, from elementary schools to high schools and college campuses around the globe. David empathizes with students who face challenges because he was once considered an “at-risk student” himself before defying the odds and graduating with a bachelor’s degree and then earning his Master’s Degree.
