New Counselor Program Focuses on Minds and Hearts
For years, ESC - Region 19 Alternative Certification Department has brought you quality certification programs for Teachers (TPCP) and Principals (PACA). In response to the regional need for more certified school counselors, the new Counselor Alternative Program (CAP) was developed and approved by SBEC.
The CAP program is intended to aid districts in filling Texas School Counselor positions with outstanding counselors who are highly trained, committed, dedicated and who have exceptional skills and empathy necessary to work with a diverse student population.
The goal of CAP is to give individuals who think with their minds and hearts a quality and realistic certification program for Texas School Counselors. Interns will leave CAP certified as Texas School Counselors All Levels. They will also leave having developed a network of contacts necessary to help our Region’s students, including the relationship developed with their mentor counselor on their respective internship campus.
The CAP program vows to continue the excellent track record of TPCP and PACA to prepare, certify, and support educators and counselors to meet the staffing needs of the districts served within the region.
