The "Do the Write Thing Challenge" Program (DtWT) is a unique education program designed to give middle school students an opportunity to communicate in classroom discussions and written form how bullying and violence impacts their daily lives. In addition to exposing the causes and impact of bullying/violence, students are asked to identify what they will do to address these problems.
Do the Write Thing El Paso is open to all 7th and 8th grade youth in El Paso County. Semi-finalists are selected from each school district, participate in an El Paso Leadership Summit, and are honored along with their teachers and parents at a Celebration Banquet in May. Two national finalists and a state finalist are chosen after student/parent interviews conducted by a select committee of individuals who represent business, higher education, and legal communities, among others. National and state finalists attend Leadership Summits in Austin, Texas and the national finalists represent El Paso in Washington D.C. Travel and accommodation expenses are provided for students, a parent, and teacher.
