EDUCATION SERVICE CENTER – REGION 19 RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ISO REGISTRATION
Officials at Education Service Center – Region 19 (ESC-R19) announced that they have received notification that its Quality Management System is in conformance with standards set by ISO 9001:2000. Conformance to ISO indicates that designated ESC-R19 programs and services meet the quality management standards of the International Organization of Standards which is recognized in more than 100 countries throughout the world.
ESC-R19 provides a wide array of educational programs and services to school districts and related educators, parents and students in El Paso and Hudspeth counties. There are 20 service centers in the state, all seeking ISO status in order to document continued success in serving clients.
External auditors with ABS Quality Evaluations of Houston, a leading international classification firm, visited ESC – Region 19 in June and spent several days conducting a comprehensive audit. Auditors examined the center’s Quality Management System. ESC-R19 received a successful review by the audit, and was awarded a Certificate of Conformance to ISO 9001:2000 standards on August 10, 2007.
ISO 9001:2000 has developed well recognized standards for manufacturing and business service industries. ESC-R19 is one of a small number of educational organizations nationally to implement a Quality Management System conforming to these standards.
To be in full compliance with the standard, the center implemented a comprehensive Quality Management System that addresses many crucial areas of operation including strategic planning, staff training, program design, development and delivery, data analysis and customer satisfaction assessment.
While it is somewhat unique for an education entity to complete the strenuous process of becoming registered, Dr. James Vasquez, Executive Director said, “this accomplishment is in line with our focus on meeting customer needs and expectations and on our striving to continually improve the center’s processes, programs, and services.”
The development of the center’s Quality Management System included a large amount of employee participation. Dr. Allan Lindstrom, ESC-R19 Coordinator of Strategic Planning, managed the program development and coordinated the audit process. He said, “The time and effort volunteered by ESC-R19 staff was impressive and was key to the center’s attainment of this recognition.”
