TEKS Professional Development
Education Service Center - Region 19 will provide Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) professional development to all eligible teachers, teacher leaders, and administrators. Professional development will be provided in both face-to-face and online formats and will be provided at no cost to participants.
PURPOSE/GOALS
In accordance with Rider 42b(i),42c,42d, Student Success Initiative, the purpose and goals of this grant are to:
- Provide Math Academies training to all eligible participants. Math Academies will be offered to grades 5-8 math teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42b(i))
- Provide ELPS Academies training to all eligible participants. ELPS Academies will be offered to bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers K-12 core content teachers, and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42d)
- Provide Science Academies training to all eligible participants. Science Academies will be offered to grades 5-8 science teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide New Science TEKS training to all eligible participants. New Science TEKs training will be offered to grades K-12 science teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide English I End-of-Course Success training to all eligible teachers in grades 9-12. EOC Success for English I will be offered to English I teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide English II End-of-Course Success training to all eligible teachers in grades 9-12. English II EOC Success will be offered to English II teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide Algebra I End-of-Course Success training to all eligible teachers in grades 9-12. Algebra I EOC Success will be offered to Algebra I teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide Biology End-of-Course Success training to all eligible teachers in grades 9-12. Biology EOC Success
will be offered to Biology teachers and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide professional development training in other content area TEKS (e.g., Career and Technical Education [CTE] and Fine Arts) to eligible participants and appropriate teacher leaders/administrators. (Section 42c)
- Provide all TEKS PD training in both face-to-face and online formats.
- Provide online support to participants engaged in online learning.
SCIENCE TEKS OVERVIEW FOR GRADES K-12
Examine the new 2010 science TEKS to improve overall science instruction. Explore models of vertical alignment that strengthen participants’ knowledge of science concepts and processes, leading to student success on statewide assessments and post secondary readiness.
