New to Spanish Spelling Bee Competitions? Here are some suggestions that will help you get started!
Campus Spelling Bee:
Assign a team to plan the bee. The more passionate and enthusiastic, the more fun they'll have and will transmit that to students!
Go to the National Spanish Spelling Bee for rules and guidelines. This website also offers a list of words that can be used for study purposes (send them home to practice too!).
Ideally, a coach can be designated to help prepare students. Some campuses have a coach who meets with students (similar to UIL meetings). This will be your administrator's decision.
Designate the time and place of the campus competition.
Select a panel of judges and a pronouncer.
Publicize the event.
The campus decides what grade levels participate. Please note that in the State and the National Bees only 4-8th grade students participate.
Have students start practicing as early in the school year as possible. Students will be more prepared and their level of confidence will also increase.
Reach out to your district/central office to find out about the district's bee information.
Keep in mind that this event is not only for students participating in a bilingual/dual language program. Your campus might have students enrolled in an all-English program that are fluent in Spanish. Encourage them to participate as well!
