Scholarship Available For San Elizario HS Graduating Seniors

By San Elizario ISD News/Hector Gonzalez

SAN ELIZARIO, TX – The Council on Regional Economic Expansion and Educational Development (CREEED) has announced that the ‘Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship Fund’ is accepting applications from San Elizario High School (SEHS) seniors who plan to attend college. The fund will award a graduating senior with a $2,500 scholarship to help cover tuition or other costs associated with attending and completing college.

Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and completed dual credit or advanced placement courses. Students can download an application directly from CREEED at or a San Elizario teacher or administrator can nominate a student by submitting an application on his or her behalf.

Eligible San Elizario graduating seniors should apply by May 15, 2019. Applicants will be scored on their academic achievements, leadership and community service activities, and their commitment to attend a four-year institution of higher education. The scholarship is named in honor of Sylvia Hopp, a former superintendent of the San Elizario Independent School District who retired in 2017 after 42 years of service in education. Hopp currently serves on CREEED’s board of directors.

“We are delighted to have the chance to honor Sylvia’s long career as an educator and administrator in El Paso schools while at the same time helping a student realize their dream of going to college,” said Eduardo Rodriguez, CREEED Executive Director. “This is one of many ways that CREEED is working with schools across the region to reduce the barriers to college and increase post-secondary attainment for all El Paso students.”

The recipient of the ‘Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship’ will be announced at SEHS’ annual Rose Ceremony on May 29th. A full description of scholarship rules, eligibility, and selection criteria can be found at

CREEED is a not-for-profit education policy and advocacy group focused on creating measurable educational outcomes and dedicated to closing the achievement gap for El Paso County students.
