ESC19/Wells Fargo Awards Over $100K

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO FORMER HEAD START STUDENTS

El Paso, Texas (May 18, 2022)—  Education Service Center Region 19 and sponsor partners awarded scholarships to former Head Start students, who are now high school seniors and completed the 2022 ESC19 Scholarship Awards preparation program. Seventeen students out of over 104 participating students were awarded for their rigorous academic success and for completing all the sessions and requirements of the scholarship program.

Prizes included laptops donated by Workforce Solutions Borderplex and monetary scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000 from Wells Fargo and Education Service Center Region 19. All students who completed the program were recognized on May 17, 2022 with a special awards banquet at the Starlight Event Center, 6650 Continental Drive.

The scholarship program kicked off 4 years ago and has awarded over $100,000 to over 90 graduating high school seniors who once attended a Head Start Center as a child. The ESC19 Head Start program, serves over 4,000 students and their families annually. The program ensures a successful transition to primary schooling and through high school. Moreover, ESC19 wanted to also ensure transition success to post-secondary education and therefore established a scholarship program with the help from Wells Fargo Bank and Workforce Solutions Borderplex.

The scholarship program itself is an award for all the former Head Start students who are from high schools and charter schools from across our region, from Fort Hancock to Anthony. As students completed each of the scholarship requirements, they also took important preparation steps for their future college/career success. The program provided guidance so students could complete and submit their financial aid applications, Apply Texas Application, UTEP Prep application, TSI preparation and the tools and resources to create a professional digital portfolio through LinkedIn with a resume.

ESC19 is proud to have recognized all of the participating students’ efforts with the special banquet and celebration in front of their families.
