2023 Bea-Inspired Speech Language Pathology Award
Bea-Inspired Award for 2023 Voice of the Mountains Conference:
Honoring an inspiring speech-language pathologist who made an impact.
by Carlos M. De La Torre
The EPSHA Executive Board is pleased to announce the inauguration of the "Bea Inspired Award". ESC19 and EPSHA have partnered and have been working closely with the family of Beatriz "Bea" Monteros in an effort to begin an award to honor her legacy.
Bea’s Story:
Bea Chavez was a woman dedicated to the field of speech-language pathology, she was steadfast in her commitment to providing quality care and therapy to those with a communication disorder. Bea would spend countless hours and personal resources to help her clients meet their communication needs. Not only dedicated to her field, but Bea was also dedicated to her beloved family, her community, and those she mentored. The beauty of Bea continues to shine throughout the hard work of speech-language pathologists who strive to be just as steadfast as she was in making a difference for our El Paso community. May we continue to “Bea Inspired”.
Bea lost her battle to cancer several years ago and the goal with this award is to honor the exceptional woman that she was. Sharing her story with our community is also a major factor for EPSHA and ESC19. Bea's family is graciously financing an annual monetary award to be presented to one El Paso area Speech-Language clinician. The winner will be highlighted and presented with the award at the 2023 Voice of the Mountains Speech Therapy Conference.
