ESC Region 19 Awarded TEA Perkins Reserve Grant for CTE Programs
ESC Region 19 has been awarded the 2019-2020 Perkins Reserve Grant by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to assist with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs throughout the region.
The ESC College and Career Readiness department will use grant funds to assist LEAs in (1) fostering innovation through the identification and promotion of promising and proven CTE programs, practices, and strategies that prepare individuals for non-traditional fields; and (2) promoting the development, implementation, and adoption of programs of study or career pathways aligned with state-identified high-skill, high-wage, in-demand occupations or industries.
This will be accomplished through two (2) different Focus Areas.
Focus Area 1: Texas Regional Pathways Network assist regions with providing high-quality college and career pathways that are aligned with regional workforce needs.
Focus Area 2: Industry-Based Certifications and Testing Site/Licensed Instructor ensures students have opportunity to obtain industry-based certifications.
ESC Region 19 has partnered with 8 districts and other community partners to provide additional services in CTE for area students.
“It is with great honor and pleasure to make this announcement that will help so many El Paso students get closer to achieving their dreams of a bright future,” Information and Instructional Technology Services Director, Angelica Haro, said. “In addition, we were awarded in BOTH focus areas 1 & 2 allowing us to begin work towards a Microsoft Community Testing Center at our Boeing location.”
ESC Region 19 is 1 of only 2 service centers awarded in the state.
The grant period is July 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020.
