Code.org Professional Learning Program in El Paso

This is the final week to register for the Code.org Professional Learning Program in El Paso. This is a great opportunity to begin adding teaching capacity and redundancy in this important skillset of the 21st century.

Microsoft TechSpark and Code.org are happy to announce that all seats to the Code.org Professional Learning Program in El Paso will receive full scholarships to attend the five-day, in-person summer workshop followed by four additional sessions throughout the year.  These workshops typically cost between $1,500 - $3,000/educator.  It is imperative that we utilize these scholarships to ensure continued support in El Paso from Code.org.

Code.org’s Professional Learning Program is an intensive, year-long professional learning program for middle and high school educators who are interested in teaching Code.org’s CS Discoveries (middle school) or CS Principles (high school) courses. These programs are designed to prepare educators to provide high quality instruction based on the curriculum, tools and approach to students in their classrooms. Best of all, you don’t need any prior computer science experience to get started!

Teachers who apply and are accepted to the program commit to:

  • Attending the local five-day, in-person summer workshop from July 15 - 19, 2019 in either Austin, El Paso, or San Antonio.
  • Attending four local one-day, in-person workshops (usually on Saturdays) or possibly participating in a virtual cohort.
  • Teaching the course during the 2019-20 school year.
  • Supporting the recruitment and enrollment of a diverse group of students in the course, representative of the school’s overall student population.

Applications are currently open for the 2019-20 Professional Learning Program for middle and high school teachers.

Computer Science Discoveries or Computer Science Principles are designed to support middle and high school teachers before and during their first year teaching.

Seats are limited and this offer expires May 20th. Please share widely!
