Business and industry experts from across the country engaged with local educators, sharing ideas and information for preparing students for high-skill, high-wage and high-demand careers.

From drone technology to cyber security & renewable energy, various presenters, exhibitors and vendors hosted workshops for teachers to learn about instructional trends, software and specialized career trends.

FabLab El Paso, a local non-profit organization and fabrication lab that focuses on STEAM education, was just one of many diverse presenters at the conference.

“Teachers are very interested in our upcoming computer science program in collaboration with Microsoft and our Mobile FabLab,” Michael Nelson, FabLab Lead STEM Instructor said. “We are very excited to schedule workshops and field trips for students and teachers in the upcoming school year.”

The focus of this year’s conference was showing teachers how to best promote their CTE courses and student organizations to engage more students within their schools and increase enrollment in the programs.

Western Technical College representatives, instructors and internship coordinators offered a workshop on different strategies to recruit and outreach to students.

“It has been great interacting with teachers and showing them how to talk to middle school and high school students so they become interested in CTE programs,” Johnathan Summers, High school admissions representative for Western Technical College, said. “We hope to establish stronger relationships with teachers so we can get into the classroom and let the students know what career opportunities are out there and are available to them.”

“I hope to inspire these educators to go into the new school year excited and fired up to change people’s lives, because we have the ability to be the number one person of influence in these kid’s futures and be a part of the solution for them,” Wagner said.
