Safety and Security Specialist, Head Start

Summary

 

The Safety & Security Specialist is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, supervision, vision, and evaluation of all Safety & Security services provided to Education Service Center Region 19 Boeing offices and Head Start Facilities by Contractors, Emergency Service Districts, Fire Department and Region 19 maintenance department. The Safety & Security Specialist is responsible for inspecting buildings for compliance with state fire laws and for providing consultation and information to Head Start Director and Director of Facilities Maintenance, Support Services, Center Managers, Program Managers and Staff regarding laws, rules, regulations and department policy relating to fire safety and security monitoring. The Safety & Security Specialist in collaboration with Operations Program Manager and Director of Facilities Maintenance and Support Services will maintain Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), as well as provide training in the implementation of this EOP document. The Safety & Security Specialist will be responsible for the inventory of all facility equipment related to Fire and Life Safety and ensure compliance. This individual must positively represent ESC 19 and ESC 19 Head Start, by demonstrating effective and professional communication with all administrative, center personnel, and the public.  The major task of this position is to address all Life Safety Equipment, Security Monitoring, EOP, Training and on-going center inspections. Requires 24 hour on call monitoring and response related to alarm monitoring of all facilities

 

The Safety & Security Specialist will also be responsible for the supervision of the Building Services Program Manager for the Head Start Multi-Purpose Center (MPC). This supervision will include but is not limited to, ensure the Building Services Program Manager meets job responsibilities, maintenance needs of the MPC building and adjacent Head Start centers, as well as provide leadership and guidance ensuring work orders are complete, schedules are efficient and conference preparation is coordinated properly with all stakeholders.

Requires frequent business travel within El Paso and Hudspeth counties

 

Qualifications

 

The qualifying skills for this position are as follows:  High School diploma or GED; Associate of Arts Degree in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Risk Management or related field; Bachelor’s degree (preferred); 5 years’ experience in a supervisory / management capacity with a focus on safety and security. Specialized training and skills in emergency communications work related to police, fire/rescue, or in coordinating emergency, safety relief efforts; experience in school emergency operations planning (preferred); must have proficient computer skills and experience in writing summary reports; knowledge of Special Systems (Fire and Life Safety systems, Monitoring and Security Systems and software); bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; valid driver’s license and transportation; or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience as determined by the Executive Director.
