Family Service Worker, Head Start 2024-2025 Pool

Summary

 

The Family Service Worker (FSW) plays a vital role in the early childhood development and success of all Head Start children by identifying the social service needs of families. This involves linking parents to community resources and managing all aspects of social services, including enrollment, recruitment, selection, eligibility, and attendance for children ages 0-5 years. By utilizing effective case management, the FSW serves as both an internal and external multidisciplinary liaison, advocating, supporting, and sustaining positive and nurturing relationships with parents. This approach ensures optimal learning experiences for children through early prevention, prompt intervention, and the evaluation of social service outcomes.

 

 

Qualifications

 

This position requires a high school diploma or GED; One of the following: enrolled toward a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field and 6 months to a year internship or volunteer work with children and/ or families; or a Promotora (Certified Community Health Worker/Advocate and minimum 2 years of experience working with families); or an Associate Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Behavior Science or related field;  Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Human Services; Behavior Science or related field (preferred); Note: Credential must be completed within 18 months from date of hire in role; knowledge of community resources; knowledge of family dynamics; working knowledge of student/client database system; experience with data collection and reporting processes (preferred); bilingual (English/Spanish); must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to region-wide site locations; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with parents, staff, and community partners; First Aid/CPR (preferred). Any combination of acceptable training and experience as determined by the Executive Director.
